Town of Fortville – Water System Improvements

Fortville, Indiana

Project Description

Reynolds Construction was contracted to complete a Preliminary Engineering Study (PES) and construct a new WTP to address deficiencies associated with the town’s existing treatment plant. These primary deficiencies included: 1) aged equipment and controls and 2) lack of treatment capacity to serve an increasing water demand from the town’s rapidly growing community.

Portions of the existing groundwater wells and water plant date back to 1955, with major upgrades occurring in 1965 and 1998; corresponding to capacities of 250 gpm, 500 gpm to its current 1,000 gpm, respectively. However, within the last 5 years alone, the Town’s overall customer base has increased over 35% (over 40% residential only), with corresponding increases for water demand. This steady growth is anticipated to occur over the 20-year planning period, resulting in a near tripling of the existing population, from approximately 4,400 to 12,200. As a result, by the end of the planning period Year 2041, the required average day water demand is projected to increase from 0.565 MGD to 1.33 MGD with peak demands up to 2.66 MGD. To accommodate this capacity, the existing water supply and water plant was significantly upgraded and expanded.
