American Water Kentucky – AWKY UV Disinfection System Additions

Lexington, Kentucky

Project Description

This project included the installation and integration of new ultraviolet (UV) disinfection systems at two Kentucky American Water treatment facilities: Kentucky River Station No. 2 and Richmond Road Station. The improvements were designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing treatment infrastructure while maintaining ongoing facility operations.

At Kentucky River Station No. 2, the UV system was installed within an existing basement room. At Richmond Road Station, the new UV equipment was integrated into the existing filter effluent infrastructure.

The project included installation of multiple UV reactors, online lamp sleeve cleaning systems, UV transmittance monitors, analytical equipment, reactor monitoring and instrumentation, and PLC-based control systems with complete programming and integration into each facility’s existing plant control system. Additional work included new electrical equipment, relocation of existing piping and instrumentation, and all associated components necessary to deliver complete and fully operational UV disinfection systems at both facilities.
